Founder and Director of Brown Sugar The first Brown Sugar store opened in 1975 and developed into a successful 20-plus-store chain. Brian introduced a significant change to the business in 1990 when manufacturing under the Brown sugar label began. Associated Retailers purchased the business in 1995 and in the role of General Manager; Brian opened a number of stores in Western Australia and expanded the manufacturing component so that 100% of product sold was under the Brown Sugar label.
